Lesson: M & M Radiometric Dating

Evolution is the change in a species over time. Scientists look at multiple sources for evidence that a species has evolved overtime.  Fossils are one of those sources.  How do scientists no the age of a fossil? They use a technique called radiometric dating to determine the absolute age of a fossil.  You can use M & M"s to simulate how radioactive decay actually works.  Watch the video to see how and download the student handout (word document).

Radiometry is critical in space science, particularly radio stargazing, and assumes a huge part in Earth remote sensing. The estimation systems sorted as radiometry in optics are called photometry in some galactic applications, in opposition to the optics use of the term.

Wow, would not seeing the video, I would not believe that there is already such a technology! Very interesting to see how easy it can be to determine the age of a particular fossil stone!

I am thinking from long time how do scientists can say the age of the fossils which are way back of centuries. Do they have any machinery which can give out the date when the fossils are kept in? Now I came to know what sort technology is been using for ...
